Discrimination and the Witness state

Once you learn how to witness you will know the myth, you will know the absurdity, you will know the maya. So to overcome the problems of personality the best thing is to witness, practice witnessing everything: before talking, practice witnessing, before giving any comments, just start witnessing. It’s a very, very satisfying attitude.
H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Shri Krishna Puja, Italy, 1998

A foolish person does not guard against telling a mystery.
A wise person does not blurt out every word.
Rather the wise person will be discriminating toward those who hear.
Do not mention everything in the presence of those whom you do not know.
Teachings of Silvanus (Christian text, 2nd/3rd century CE)

Adore truth and hate lies, like a viper's venom.
Pray that an auspicious moment will dawn before you speak.
Hold silence when speech is uncalled for, and only speak about what you've actually experienced!
The untimely, hurtful uncalled for phrase points to an impure mind.
The Sentences of Sextus (early Christian text, 1st century CE)
