Joachim of Fiore

Joachim of Fiore (Gioacchino da Fiore) was an Italian Christian abbot who proposed a three-age (status) theory of the world which has resonated down the centuries in much of the apocalyptic and prophetic activity in Christian Europe.

Joachim of Fiore in his Liber Concordie, part of his Expositio in Apocalypsim (begun in 1183), Chapter 5, f. 5r-v, states:

The first of the three status of which we speak was in the time of the Law when the people of the Lord served like a little child for a time under the elements of the world. They were not yet able to attain the freedom of the Spirit until he came who said: “If the Son liberates you, you will be free indeed.”
The second status was under the Gospel and remains until the present with freedom in comparison to the past but not with freedom in comparison to the future.
The third status will come toward the End of the world, no longer under the veil of the letter, but in the full freedom of the Spirit when … those who will teach many about justice will be like the splendour of the firmament and like the stars forever.
In that [third] status the Holy Spirit will seem to call out in the Scripture “The Father and the Son have worked until now; and I am at work.” [Joachim’s version of John 5:17]

The letter of the Prior Testament [Old Testament] seems by a certain property of likeness to pertain to the Father. The letter of the New Testament pertains to the Son. So the spiritual understanding that proceeds from both pertains to the Holy Spirit. Similarly, the order of the married which flourished in the first time seems to pertain to the Father by a property of likeness, the order of preachers in the second time to the Son, and so the order of monks to whom the last great times are given pertains to the Holy Spirit. According to this, the first status is ascribed to the Father, the second to the Son, the third to the Holy Spirit, although in another way of speaking the status of the world should be said to be one, the people of the elect one, and all things at the same time belonging to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Sai Nath of Shirdi

This saint lived in the village of Shirdi, now in the state of Maharashtra, India, for some sixty years. He has left no authentic record of his birth and early life before first arriving at Shirdi as a young man of sixteen (c.1850), although it has been suggested that he was an itinerant Sufi, later returning to the village, c.1859, and remaining there until his passing in 1918. One of the persons who first came into contact with him at Shirdi addressed him spontaneously as ‘Sai’ which means Master.

Those who think I reside at Shirdi do not know the real Sai, for I am formless and everywhere. Oh, my dear friend, do not be anxious. I shall immediately show you the Brahman: all my dealings are in cash and never on credit. So many people come to me and ask for wealth, health, power, honour, position, cure of diseases and other temporal matters. Rare is the person who comes here to me and asks for Brahma-Jnana. There is no dearth of persons asking for worldly things, but as persons interested in spiritual matters are very rare, I think it a lucky and auspicious moment when persons like you come and press me for Brahma-Jnana. So I show to you, with pleasure, the Brahman with all its accompaniments and complexities...

Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi confirmed that Sai Nath was originally a Muslim:

We had a great saint like Sai Nath of Shirdi, who was a Muslim to begin with, and it is said that Fatima herself brought him as a child in her lap and gave him to some lady. (1988-0814)

Shri Mataji declared many times that Sai Nath was an incarnation of the Primordial Master. (eg. 1980-0728, 1981-0207, 1982-1101, 1983-0302, 1988-0731):

All this work has been done in the ancient times, as Mohammed was one of the prophets who came out of the ten prophets, Moses, Abraham, Lao Tse, then we had also people like other prophets, Socrates. Recently in India we had the last one …  Sai Nath who lived [and] who was representing this great principle of primordial master. (1985-0317)

"without the Father"

"... when Parvati made Shri Ganesha, He was the son of Parvati alone. There was no Father. Parvati herself wanted to have a child of her own. There were angels who were dedicated either to Vishnu or to Shiva, like ganas were dedicated to Shiva alone. So, She wanted to have her own son who can permeate her powers on this Earth. So to begin with when the Shakti created this universe and Sadashiva was watching her creation, the first thing She created on this Earth was innocence and the embodiment of that innocence was Shri Ganesha. ...

Now He is not the only son I have. I have so many sons and daughters and I have made you in the same way as I created Shri Ganesha, without the Father, on my own."

H.H.Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, extracts from Shri Ganesha Puja, San Diego, USA, 1986-0707

You must have noticed I say so many times, 'I', who is 'Absolute I'; I am absolutely alone, single.
(Shri Krishna’s Birthday Puja, London. 1981-0815)

After all I am a lone person, nobody could be near me, who could be near me? I am absolutely alone. I have no companion.
(Talk to Austrian Sahaja yogis. Bordi. 1984-0202)

I was alone when I started Sahaja Yoga, and I am a woman. You should know that a Goddess doesn't come with your own demands, She comes on her own. She has her own timing. (Christmas Puja 2001)

.. remember always that Gauri created Ganesha from Her own Vibrations. Ganesha has no father.
And I have created you as Sahaja Yogis only by myself.

Easter Puja 1996

Today we are doing Easter Puja. Today is a very important day for Sahaja Yogis because Isa-Messiah (Jesus) has shown us that redemption of human beings is possible, and for that redemption we should always put in an effort. There is also a meaning why He was crucified. He was crucified on the cross and this cross is a symbol of the Swastika on the Agnya chakra. He was crucified and He left His body there only. He told some important things at that time and one most important thing out of this was 'Wait for the Mother' - Think of the Mother'. (Behold the Mother?)

Everybody can interpret it in a different way, but it seems He said that He will send for us such a shakti (power) who has three channels - Trigunatmika, and that is described very beautifully. One of these Shaktis/powers will give us comfort. This comfort-giving power in us is Mahakali's power which gives us comfort, which cures our diseases, which corrects/solves many questions of our past. The second power, which He gave us, which He sent to us, was Mahasaraswati and to this Mahasaraswati Power, He called Counsellor, the one who will counsel you - that means, who helps us for Yognirupan (to see the form of Yoga). With the help of this second power, we will get Gyan (Knowledge), we will know the subtle knowledge. And the third power, (Mahalakshmi) with the help of which we will get our redemption.

Thus, He had talked about these three powers. Buddha also said that I will send you Matreya, that means three types of mothers - Matain-Ekritya-Matreya.
People did not understand what this Matreya is, and they made it Maitrya. This Matreya can be only in Adishakti - simultaneously - Adishakti, He must have told as Primordial Mother. But the one who corrected Bible, he made it as Holy Ghost - and made a dove instead of it. Because the one who corrected the Bible hated women and he did not believe that a woman could also do such a great work. Because of this hatred, he made a strange form of it (the Holy Ghost) and the second thing is that it is a dove and a dove means that she will be the messenger of peace. But He did not talk of a woman or that she will be a woman. But in our Shatras it is written „Sahasrare Mahamaya“, that means She will be in the form of Mahamaya. People will not recognize Her and you have to get your self realization to recognize Her. If you don't get your realization, you cannot recognize Her.

In His lifetime He (Jesus) explained everything in a very open manner, He could do. Many things He told and many things He didn't, but still some truth came out which they could not change. It was very necessary for Sahaja Yoga that Isa Messiah (Jesus) came. He was a Chir Balak (boy from olden times), and now it is proved that He was an incarnation of Shri Ganesha. Shri Ganesha incarnated only once in the world and that is in the form of Shri Jesus/Isa Messiah.

The work of these three(Buddha, Mahavira, Jesus(Isa)) was done at the level of Tapasya and therefore they worked in the Murdha of Virata (Brain), and there is a place of Tapasya in the work of all the three, that means human beings should do the Tapasya and they can cross through Agnya only with Tapasya. It was very necessary to pierce through Agnya chakra, without that, Kundalini cannot rise. Resurrection of Jesus facilitated the piercing of the Agnya chakra. First He died and then His resurrection took place. Therefore there is a great message from Easter that because of Resurrection of Isa-Messiah (Jesus), we could get our resurrection. The most difficult chakra in a human being is the Agnya chakra because a human being is always thinking. This continuous thinking results in a condition of vaporization of mind in the head and he cannot go beyond these thoughts. He cannot go beyond these thoughts. You can go beyond thinking only when the Agnya Chakra is opened. Therefore it can be said that Sahaja Yoga would have been very difficult if Isa (Jesus) would not have resurrected after leaving his body. However the work was done by all the Incarnations at their respective places and at respective times. But the work which was done by the resurrection of Isa(Jesus) was marvelous. That is the reason why it is not difficult to open Agnya. It is not difficult to go beyond Agnya. There have been many Gurus, many great Gurus. They did a great work. They did so many things so that people could get their Jagruti (awareness) to God and they could attract their attention to self-realization.

Saint Brigit

Brigit was one of the great Triple Goddesses of the Celtic people.
Goddess of the fire.
She was Protectress of smiths, healers and poets.
She was the High Mother Goddess of Ireland and survived Christianity.
(from the website, Shrine of Brigit)

In the Christian tradition, Saint Brigit of Kildare dates from the 5th century (d. c.525CE), however the legends surrounding this saint link her to the earlier pagan goddess, Brighit. In Celtic mythology both share similar characteristics, relating to agriculture, the arts and fertility.
So it is likely that the early Christians in Ireland appropriated the earlier legends and presented them in the person of a Christian saint.

Shri Raja Rajeshwari

1991-1206 Shri Raja Rajeshwari Puja from Sahaja Library on Vimeo.

So many names have been described of the Goddess, especially Adi Shankaracharya called Her Raja Rajeshwari, meaning “She’s the Queen of all the Queens”. Also, for Mother Mary they have used this title in the West. These ideas have come from the pagan religion, as I’ve told you before, and that they didn’t come by the description of Mother Mary in the Bible. That shows that there have been a lot of changes into the script of Holy Bible. Also there has been lot of changes in the script of Indian scriptures, even Gita. And that’s how the derailment in every religion started. ...

Today we are going to do the worship of Raja Rajeshwari. I’ve never said this to you before. I’ve never asked you to read Guru Gita for the same reason. I’ve never told you that She is Raja Rajeshwari because again that might little bit go into your ego, how can She be the Queen of all the Queens. Of course, Christ’s mother is alright but not Mataji, it’s too much. So I never told you this. ...

Jesus Christ in the Qur'an

Behold! The angels said: ‘O Mariam [Mary]! God gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him. His name will be Isa [Jesus], the son of Mariam, held in honor in this world and the hereafter and in (the company of) those nearest to God.’ (3:45)

We gave Isa, the son of Mariam, clear arguments and strengthened him with the holy spirit. (2:87)

And she who guarded her chastity [Mary], so We breathed into her of Our inspiration and made her and her son a sign for the nations. (21:91)

We sent Isa son of Mariam afterwards, and We gave him the Injeel [holy book], and We put in the hearts of those who followed him kindness and mercy. (57:27)

Heavenly Queen

Here is free prospect wide,
The soul up-bearing.
There women-figures glide,
Heavenwards faring.
With them the Heavenly Queen, Majesty tender,
In wreath of stars is seen,
Clear in her splendour.

Pavilioned in the heaven’s blue,
Queen on high of all the world,
For the holy sight I sue,
Of the mysteries unfurled.
Sanction what in man may move
Feelings tender and austere,
And with glow of tender love
Lifts him to thy presence near.

Souls unconquerable rise
If, sublime, thou will it;
Sinks that storm in peaceful wise
If thy pity stills it.
Virgin, pure in heavenly sheen,
Mother, throned supernal,
Highest birth, our chosen Queen,
Godhead’s peer eternal.

Now near her splendour
Floats a light cloud,
Penitents tender
In gentle crowd,
Tasting heaven’s ether,
At her feet kneeling,
For grace appealing.

To thee, enthroned in holy awe,
Power is not denied,
That the lightly erring draw,
Trusting, to thy side.
Hard to save whom lust be spake,
Weak, before his fire;
Who in single strength can break
Chains of dark desire?
So the foot will swiftly slip,
On the slant way gliding,
Heart the fool of eye and lip,
In soft words confiding.

O contrite hearts, seek with your eyes
The visage of salvation;
Blissful in that gaze, arise,
Through glad regeneration.
Now may every pulse of good
Seek to serve before thy face,
Virgin, Queen of Motherhood,
Keep us, Goddess, in thy grace.

Sophia

Sophia is not only the object of divine activity, as the primordial Cosmos which includes all ideas and created beings in itself; She is Herself an active, attentive living Being who is the spiritual foundation of the world, the Soul of the World, representing nothing other than the first created, undivided, living Creature, the ideal Personality of the world and, above all, of humanity.
She is simultaneously the individual and the universal, primordial human being, or (which means the same thing) the individual and universal organism of all of humanity, actually containing in Herself all individual human beings, and in whom every human being as a creature has his or her home and metaphysical roots.
She is truly the great Mother of all persons and creatures.

Vladimir Soloviev (1853-1900)

This Russian philosopher in his youth had three visions of Sophia which sustained him for the rest of his life, including in his theological battles with the Russian Orthodox Church.

Heavenly Wisdom

Wisdom spoke: Endeavour to practice and hold what your Mother, heavenly Wisdom, has said to you.
It is certainly difficult to travel forth in nature, wherein you dwell, on the superior way without interruption, and to make all hindrances into favourable circumstances; but faith, practiced in weakness, develops faith, until it finally becomes power. ...
Although there are always only very few men who love and seek the holy Wisdom, she has also in the great crowd of men on earth still a sizable number of friends. But there are always a few who really take to her as mother and themselves as her children, and still fewer, one finds, who long for a true union with her.
Whoever has the mother, he is truly cared for according to soul and body. But whoever attains an authentic union with her, he possesses yet more, indeed everything which is permitted him in time and eternity, even coming to participating in the glorification that belongs to the image of God.

Johann Jacob Wirz (1778-1858)

This Swiss mystic formed the Nazarene Community, emphasising a simple and humble way of life.
Wirz was guided by heavenly Wisdom as Sophia, as shown in this extract from his Journals, dated January 1, 1837.

Queen of Heaven

Far up lies the celestial path.
The perilous river of life flows along.
On its rocky banks perish inexperienced voyagers
who are unable to discern the direction of good and of evil.
The All-merciful Queen of Heaven is solicitous about the inexperienced voyagers.
The All-benevolent One speeds Her help to those on the hazardous paths.
She wants to envelope the whole human sorrow of sin with a virgin veil.
Out of the resplendent city, from the wondrous abode of the angelic hosts rises the All-benevolent One.
She gathers all her saintly helmsmen and lifts up Her prayers for humankind.
The angels marvel at the labors of the Queen.
Out of the stronghold, legions arise in action.
An effulgent, beatific host is pledged to the great achievement.
They sound their trumpets in glory to the Queen.
From within the ramparts rise the Archangels.
Cherubim and Seraphim gather about the Mother of the Lord.
The Empowered, the Enthroned, the Ruling Ones aspire together.
The Great Sources, which comprise the Mystery draw near.
To the Holy Spirit, to the Great Lord, the Queen of Heaven transmits Her prayers;
for the voyagers of limited understanding, for the visitations of God’s paths,
for salvation, protection, all-mercy.
Thus the Great Spirit helps!
A great prayer rises unto Thee.
The virgin prayer of the Mother of the Lord.
Let us bring thanks to the Protectress!
Let us proclaim the Mother of the Lord:
Every living thing rejoices in Thee, Blessed One.

Lady Nature

"My mother who was great and grand and more valorous than Penthesilea (God had made her well!) surpassed my father in knowledge, power, and value, despite the fact that he had learned so much. She was a crowned queen from the moment that she was born. Everyone knows of her power and strength. It is clear that she is never idle, and, without being overbearing, she is always occupied with many, diverse tasks: her impressive works are found everywhere; every day she creates many beautiful ones. Whoever wanted to count all that she has done and continues to do would never finish. She is old without being aged, and her life cannot end before Judgement Day. God gave her the task of maintaining and increasing the world as He had made it, in order to sustain human life: she is called Lady Nature. She is the mother of every person: God thus calls us all brothers and sisters."

Eight Stanzas to Bhavani

No father have I, nor mother, no comrade,
No son, no daughter, no wife, and no grandchild,
No servant or master, no wisdom, no calling:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

Immersed as I am in the limitless ocean
Of worldy existence, I tremble to suffer.
Alas! I am lustful and foolish and greedy,
And ever enchained by the fetters of evil:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

To giving of alms and to meditation,
Yo scriptures and hymns and mantras, a stranger,
I know not of worship, possess no dispassion:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

O Mother! Of pilgrimage or of merit,
Of mental control or the soul’s liberation,
Of rigorous vows or devotion, I know not:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

Addicted to sinning and worthless companions,
A slave to ill thoughts and to doers of evil,
Degraded am I, unrighteous, abandoned,
Attached to ill objects, adept in ill-speaking:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

I know neither Brahma nor Vishnu nor Shiva.
Nor Indra, sun, moon, or similar being –
Not one of the numberless gods, O Redeemer!
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

In strife or in sadness, abroad or in danger,
In water, in fire, in the wilds, on the mountains,
Surrounded by foes, my Saviour! Protect me:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

Defenceless am I – ill, again, and helpless,
Enfeebled, exhausted, and dumbly despairing,
Afflicted with sorrow, and utterly ruined:
In Thee is my only haven of refuge,
In Thee, my help and my strength, O Bhavani!

The Mother in the Islamic Tradition

Paradise is at the feet of the Mother.

Allah, The Most High, is pleased when Fatimah is pleased.
He is angered, whenever Fatimah is angered!

(Two Hadith (Sayings) of the Prophet Mohammed)

On the face of the earth there is no one more beautiful than You.
Wherever I go I wear Your image in my heart.
Whenever I fall in a despondent mood I remember your image
And my spirit rises thousand fold.
Your advent is the blossom time of the universe.
O Mother you have showered Your choicest blessings upon me.
Also remember me on the Day of Judgement.
I don’t know if I will go to heaven or hell,
But wherever I go, please always abide in me.

(Unknown Sufi)

On Resurrection Day, the sun and moon are released from service:
and the eye beholds the Source of their radiance,
then it discerns the permanent possession from the loan,
and this passing caravan from the abiding home.
If for a while a wet nurse is needed,
Mother, return us to your breast.
I don’t want a nurse; my Mother is more fair.
I am like Moses whose nurse and Mother were the same.

The Tao: Mother of the World

There is one thing that is invariably complete.
Before Heaven and Earth were, it is already there:
so still, so lonely.
Alone it stands and does not change.
It turns in a circle and does not endanger itself.
One may call it 'the Mother of the World’.
I do not know its name.
I call it TAO. …

The world has a beginning:
that is the Mother of the World.
Whosoever finds the mother
in order to know the sons;
whosoever knows the sons
and returns to the mother:
he will not be in danger all his life long. …

The Thunder, Perfect Mind

In this Gnostic text, in imagery that is variously that of the Greek Sophia and of the Jewish Shekhinah,
the feminine aspect of the Divine proclaims:

I was sent forth from the power,
and I have come to those who reflect upon me,
and I have been found among those who seek after me.
Look upon me, you who reflect upon me, and you hearers, hear me.
You who are waiting for me, take me to yourselves.
and do not banish me from your sight.
and do not make your voice hate me, nor your hearing.
Do not be ignorant of me anywhere or any time. Be on your guard!
Do not be ignorant of me.

For I am the first and the last. ...
I am the [mother] and the daughter. ...

I am the silence that is incomprehensible and the idea whose remembrance is frequent.
I am the voice whose sound is manifold and the word appearance is manifold.
I am the utterance of my name. ...

I am strength and I am fear.
I am war and peace.
Give heed to me.
I am the one who is disgraced and the great one.
Give heed to my poverty and my wealth.
Do not be arrogant to me when I am cast out upon the earth,
and you will find me in those that are to come.
and do not look upon me on the dung-heap nor go and leave me cast out.

Judy G writes: I had shared my discovery of The Thunder, Perfect Mind with Shri Mataji in 1989. She said She loved it.
Well here we are out of the sacred dark into the brillant light.

Lady Wisdom

She makes her voice heard in the open squares,
From the top of the walls she cries out,
Where the gates open into the city:
‘How long, you simpletons, will you prefer ignorance? ...

I am Wisdom. My neighbour is intelligence.
I am found in [company with] knowledge and thought. ...
My fruit is more precious than pure, fine gold,
And my revenue than the choicest silver.
I walk firmly the way of right,
Where the paths of justice meet,
Bestowing integrity on those who love me,
And fulfilling their treasuries.
