Saint Brigit

Brigit was one of the great Triple Goddesses of the Celtic people.
Goddess of the fire.
She was Protectress of smiths, healers and poets.
She was the High Mother Goddess of Ireland and survived Christianity.
(from the website, Shrine of Brigit)

In the Christian tradition, Saint Brigit of Kildare dates from the 5th century (d. c.525CE), however the legends surrounding this saint link her to the earlier pagan goddess, Brighit. In Celtic mythology both share similar characteristics, relating to agriculture, the arts and fertility.
So it is likely that the early Christians in Ireland appropriated the earlier legends and presented them in the person of a Christian saint.
