Tunis

I was so surprised when I came here that especially Tunis I felt was full of Divine vibrations. I just didn’t understand what was going on in this beautiful holy place. Then I discovered there have been three great souls, very highly spiritual, who were born in this place. I was absolutely restless to see those places. I think their souls also are restless to see me. I hope tomorrow I will visit all these places. There is a special relationship that exists between saints, and it’s very joy-giving. You feel you are not alone in this place – there are many others who have lived. But they could not do much because people were so ignorant. Most of the saints – even [Mohammed-sahib] was tortured. [Hazrat-Ali], who was a great incarnation, also was killed. His two children from Fatima also were killed. Horrible things happened to them. That does not mean that spiritual people do not have the protection of the Divine. But it was all done to show how these people could sacrifice their life for truth.

A little poem

What if the babbling brook was not permitted to babble
Nor the whispering wind able to sigh
What if there was never any opposition
No friction, no resistance, no struggle
What if all the stones were as the river rocks
Smooth, even, and flat
What if we loved our spirit more than our life
Than what prayers would we need.
The play continues, the wheel turns
And we feel that we have never been here before
We fear tomorrow, as we fear the unknown
We hold fast to the wavering reed
As the current of false impression (Maya), glides over us
Here in this stream of life.

Vishivanath

An 18th century yogi who lived on the Hindukush mountain in northwest Sind (now Pakistan). Said to be the guru of the Sufi, Sachal Sarmast (1739-1829) who composed the following verse:

I recognised the yogi who of his own accord entered my abode.
He had dressed himself in the garb of an ascetic as an artful device.
He had long yogic tresses and his body was smeared with ash.
His flute’s melody entranced my soul.
God had brought about this union between me and the yogi.
For him I have now sprinked perfume and musk:
It was he who revealed to me the entire mystery.

Gahininath

This Nath yogi was a disciple of Gorakhnath. He spent much of his life in the caves and shelters of the hills of western India, including several years at Brahmagiri, near Tryambakeshvar, in what is now Maharashtra, where there is a cave known as Gorakhhagimpha. Whilst staying there, Gahininath took as his disciple a young boy, Nivritti, who accidently entered the cave.
Nivritti achieved his realisation, and in turn became the guru to his brothers, Jnaneshwara, Sopandev, and sister, Muktabai.
There are Maratha traditions that report a connection between the forefathers of Nivritti and Jnaneshwara and the Nath yogis, extending over four generations, which include a reference to Gahininath being the guru of Vitthal, the father of Nivritti and his brothers and sister.

Saint Brigit

Brigit was one of the great Triple Goddesses of the Celtic people.
Goddess of the fire.
She was Protectress of smiths, healers and poets.
She was the High Mother Goddess of Ireland and survived Christianity.
(from the website, Shrine of Brigit)

In the Christian tradition, Saint Brigit of Kildare dates from the 5th century (d. c.525CE), however the legends surrounding this saint link her to the earlier pagan goddess, Brighit. In Celtic mythology both share similar characteristics, relating to agriculture, the arts and fertility.
So it is likely that the early Christians in Ireland appropriated the earlier legends and presented them in the person of a Christian saint.
